Learning from Home Resources Week 2, 11th October - 15th October

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

Today we have uploaded Week 2’s Learning Timetable into all Stage 3 Google Classrooms should you or your child wish to orientate yourselves with next week’s lessons over the weekend.

Zoom Meetings

Each week, until we return to school full time (Monday 25 October 2021),  there will be two 15 minute check-ins to see how students are progressing with accessing Learning from Home activities and to answer any questions students may have. Students will access the Zoom Meeting via a link posted in their respective Google Classrooms on Mondays and Thursdays.

Zoom Timetable:

  • 9:15am: 5/6H and 5K (changed to accommodate Interrelate online lesson)

  • 10:30am: Year 5

  • 12:15pm: Year 6

There will also be a Language Zoom meeting on Tuesday 12 October. Please remind your child to check their respective Language Google Classroom for more information.

Please note that all Zoom meetings will cease when we return to school full time on Monday 25 October.

Year 6 End of Year Events

Term 4 is traditionally centred on the involvement of many social events for our Year 6 students. We have dates booked for their Dance Concert, Graduation Ceremony, Picnic Day and Farewell Dinner. Unfortunately, based on current advice given to schools by NSW Health, we are unable to confirm some or any of these occurring at this point in time. We’ll keep students and parents informed on these matters as we receive more information in the coming weeks.

Year 5 Interrelate

Last term, permission notes for the Year 5 Interrelate program were sent as a parent E-News. The delivery of these three 1.5 hour sessions will this term be delivered to paid students via a Zoom link which will be posted in your child’s respective Google Classroom. As the Interrelate program begins on Monday (11th October) during the designated Learning from Home period, proof of payment for this incursion will also be used as parental permission.

Stage 3 teachers have seen some amazing work samples and the majority of students are actively engaging in Learning from Home with the support of their families. We really appreciate the effort everyone at home is making at this difficult time.

Kind Regards,

Mr M. Knight & Stage 3 teachers

Learning from Home Resources Week 1, 5th October - 8th October

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4! Online Learning will recommence from Tuesday, 5th October - A reminder that Monday, 4th October is a Public Holiday which will affect our class Zoom sessions not taking place. Today we have uploaded Week 1’s Learning Timetable into all Stage 3 class Google Classrooms shall you or your child wish to orientate yourselves to next week’s lessons.

With the disruptions to learning we’ve had throughout Term 3, we’ll continue in Term 4 to focus predominantly upon important literacy and numeracy concepts for student success within our posted online lessons. Our learning theme for Term 4 is a cultural and geographic study on Papua New Guinea where we’ll be integrating related content within our writing and reading tasks as well.

Last term Stage 3 teachers saw many amazing work samples and were pleased the majority of students were actively engaging in Learning from Home with the support of their families. We genuinely appreciated the effort parents and carers made during that difficult time. We wish to continue this momentum during this term’s Learning from Home period as well. Stage 3 teachers continue this term to offer you and your child the same level of support and care and look forward to a productive and successful end to the 2021 school year.

Learning from Home Resources Week 10, 13th September - 17th September

Stage 3 Learning from Home Update for Week 10

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

Next week is the last week of Term 3 and as it comes to a close we encourage you to take a well-earned break from Learning from Home. During the school holidays, all Google Classrooms will be muted and Classroom Teachers will not be available to respond to private messages.

Our final week of learning will be referred to as ‘Wellbeing Week’. Formal lessons will instead be replaced with an activity grid for students to self-direct their learning for the week on a range of activities from craft, photography, fitness, creative arts, design, cooking and other life skills. Students will be encouraged to complete three of these grid tasks per day and upload these through their Google Classroom to share with their teacher. This activity grid has been uploaded today for students to preview and plan for their chosen activities. Our students have worked productively throughout this term’s Learning from Home period and to acknowledge this we’re sure our Wellbeing Week will be welcomed by both our students and parents.

Moving forward to Term 4, Stage 3 teachers will expand their Zoom sessions to two a week with the additional Zoom continuing to embrace a student check in and wellbeing opportunity with both their classmates and teacher. We will also restructure the times for our Stage 3 Zoom sessions as follows:

  • Year 5: Monday, 10:30am and Thursday 10:30am

  • Year 6: Monday 12:15pm and Thursday 12:15pm

Today permission notes for the Year 5 Interrelate program have been sent as an E-News to parents. The delivery of these three 1.5 hour sessions will this year be delivered to paid students via a Zoom link which will be posted in your child’s respective Google Classroom. As the Interrelate program is occurring next term during the designated Learning from Home period, proof of payment for this incursion will also be used as parental permission. The Year 6 Interrelate program will also be provided mid next term with an information note to be provided at a later date.

Online Learning will recommence from Tuesday 5 October 2021. Over the next two weeks, we hope our students take some time to log off, switch off their screens and spend some time outdoors. Stay safe and we look forward to working online with you and your child in Term 4.

Kind Regards,

Mr Knight and Stage 3 teachers

Learning from Home Resources Week 9, 6th September - 10th September

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

With information released last week from the NSW Premier, Learning from Home will continue up to mid Term 4 for our students in Stage 3. However this depends on advice from NSW Health nearer to this time.

Current practices by Stage 3 teachers in delivering, providing feedback and assessing the quality and engaging tasks provided will continue via Google Classroom and weekly Zoom sessions.

Moving Forward:

Language (Greek and French) Zoom sessions starting next week:

  • Tuesday 9:30am: Greek A with Mrs Koureas

  • Tuesday 10am: French with Miss Seav

  • Tuesday 12:30pm: Greek B with Mrs Karantonis

  • Poetry Zoom: Mrs Holmes has registered our Stage 3 students to join this workshop about Poetry and deepening connections with our world. This Zoom session celebrates Threatened Species Day and should be very inspiring and informative. This Zoom will occur next Tuesday at 10am. Joining information will be posted in each Stage 3 Google Classroom.

  • Week 10, Stage 3 Wellbeing Week: Stay tuned for next week’s E-News for information about our delivery of Learning from Home tasks for what will no doubt be an exciting end to Term 3 for our students!

  • Zoom sessions, Term 4: During the designated Learning from Home weeks next term, Stage 3 teachers will be delivering an additional Zoom session, most likely on a Thursday or Friday. This additional class Zoom time will also be along the lines of student well being and a virtual, social experience between class teachers and their students.

With Term 3 approaching its end I cannot underplay the work students have completed nor their levels of engagement in online learning. The positive partnership we have had with our parents during lockdown also needs to be acknowledged. As we move into next term please remember that any email queries or support you require regarding your child’s learning will be promptly addressed by your child’s teacher.

Kind regards,

Mr Knight and Stage 3 Teachers

Learning from Home Resources Week 8, 30th August - 3rd September

Stage 3 Learning from Home Update for Week 8

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

This week students participated in two Zoom author talks held by the State Library. These were organised by Mrs Holmes for Stage 3 and she was proud to see many students from Sans Souci Public participating in the online discussions. The State Library also commended our students on their enthusiasm and interest. They have also offered us the opportunity to join the NSW State Library Young Writers Club - this is a free online after school program all about creative thinking and building writing skills. Students can find more information and register on the State Library website Young Writers Club | State Library of NSW. We hope Stage 3 students enjoyed this experience and learnt some tips and tricks that they can use in their future writing. We will also be showcasing our “Tube Dudes” in our Zoom meeting on Monday. We can’t wait to see what the students have created!

This afternoon both the Year 5 and Year 6 Learning Overviews for Week 8 will be uploaded for children to preview. We encourage students to send any questions they have prior to the session to the relevant Zoom post.

The timetables have also been adjusted to incorporate Wellbeing Wednesdays. From 12:00pm onwards, students and families are encouraged to take a break from learning from home. During this time, Stage 3 teachers will also not be monitoring Google Classroom as they will be involved in collaborative planning for the coming week.

From Monday, Stage 3 Zooms will be acknowledging Quality Work from the previous week. Two students from each class will be asked to share their learning experiences and to share their tasks with their peers, similar to Friday assemblies. Students will be notified before the Zoom session begins.

Stage 3 teachers sincerely appreciate the effort and time families are putting into supporting students and their learning. We hope that with the addition of Quality Work and Wellbeing Wednesdays, students have additional positive experiences and interactions to look forward to with their peers in the coming weeks.

Have a nice weekend and stay safe!

Regards,

Stage 3 teachers

Learning from Home Resources Week 7, 23rd August - 27th August

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

This afternoon both the Year 5 and Year 6 Weekly Timetable Overview for Week 7 will be uploaded for your child to preview. We encourage our students to message any questions they feel they’d like further clarification on prior to the Zoom session itself to their class teacher in the relevant Zoom post.

In collaboration with Mrs Holmes, our teacher-librarian, we have reserved places for our Stage 3 students to join two Zoom sessions organised by the State Library of NSW. These will be two Australian children’s author talks by Angela George and Christopher Cheng who have books included in this year’s Book Week list of recommended stories. Throughout the webinars the authors will share their tips on how to be an imaginative writer as well as some ideas for creating characters that readers will connect to. Students will access these Zoom author talks via a link posted in each Stage 3 Google Classroom.

Starting from next week, Wednesday 25 August 2021, we will be prioritising the wellbeing of our students and families. From 12:00pm onwards, students and families will be given the time to take a break from learning from home.

During this time, Stage 3 teachers will not be monitoring Google Classroom as we will be involved in collaborative planning for the coming week. We suggest that students take a break, play a board game, play outside or help cook something, to name a few.

Stage 3 teachers have seen some amazing work samples and have been constantly pleased that the majority of students are actively engaging in Learning from Home with the support of their families. We’re sure the examples of learning shared  from all of our Stage 3 classes in this week's Newsletter is testament to this. We really appreciate the effort everyone at home is making at this difficult time.

Regards,

Mr Knight & Stage 3 teachers

Learning from Home Resources Week 6, 16th August - 20th August

 Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you continue to be safe and well.

Next week we will have our third teacher-student Zoom session for this term. The staff have reviewed the content and information covered during these, to make the experience more purposeful for the wellbeing of our students. Of course the essential focus for our Zoom sessions will continue to be a check-in to see how students are accessing Online Learning and to answer any questions students may have about this. We’ll also be having Mrs Ward co-host our Zoom sessions from next week. Students can access their class Zoom Meeting via a posted link in their Google Classroom each Monday.

5W - 9:20am

5H 9:20am

6H - 9:40am

5K - 10:20am

6V - 12pm

5S - 12:40pm

6T - 1:50pm

6K - 2:20pm

During our Stage 3 teacher Zoom meeting yesterday it was great to hear the feedback from staff regarding the efforts students have made with the work they’ve been uploading. As it occurs at school, teachers are continually focused upon monitoring learning and providing feedback for their students during this Learning from Home period also.

Ways in which students will receive feedback includes timely contact through private messaging in Google Classroom, providing students with written feedback detailing the positives and a recommendation for the task, the use of marking rubrics (in some cases) and where applicable, the acknowledgement of task submission.

An end of week checklist can be found in each grade’s weekly overview to support students towards their task completion and submission. In partnership with Stage 3 teachers, we recommend that you also praise and acknowledge the work your child completes.

We thank you for your ongoing support.

How you complete the learning tasks online is up to parents and carers. Parents may want you to work in a workbook, on a worksheet, or they may let you work online. It is up to parents and what suits your family best.

Stage 2 teachers have seen some amazing work samples and the majority of students are actively engaging in Learning from Home with the support of their families. We really appreciate the effort everyone at home is making at this difficult time. Just a reminder that you can only upload 20 pieces of work at the maximum. Stage 2 teachers will endeavor to provide feedback via the rubric on Google Classroom by Tuesday afternoon the following week.

Following feedback from the community, there will be several videos to support the understanding of Online Learning to explain what is expected.

We are also connecting our writing tasks and modelled reading with our Science / Geography theme: The Earth and its Environments. There are slideshows and Docs with instructions for these lessons and you can complete your work on the Slideshow or Doc. These documents automatically save for your teacher to see so there is no need to upload the finished work.

Mathematics will be a combination of worksheets and online tasks from Mathletics and the Open Middle website. You can print out or write the answers on a piece of paper from the worksheets. Complete at least one page per day over the week. We will also be setting 6 Tasks in Mathletics each week. Thursday will be ‘Maths Challenge Day!’ to assist students with the language and patterns of Mathematics. The whole family could get involved in discussing these problems and solutions if you choose.

Please find below several videos that will assist you in accessing Online Learning resources. We created these videos in 2020 so many of the videos feature the Stage 2 2020 class teachers, however, the information is still relevant. The videos are also posted in all Stage 2 Google Classrooms.

Beginning this week, your class teacher will provide feedback on writing, modelled reading (that is linked to our Science / Geography unit) and a maths work sample through a Rubric, a feature of Google Classroom.

The video below from 2020 explains the Rubrics we have created:

We understand this is a challenging situation for families and we appreciate your support and understanding. It is not compulsory for you and your child to complete all of the learning tasks we have provided. Of course in the classroom each day, teachers adapt tasks to assist students to complete their learning tasks to the best of their ability. The tasks provided on this timetable are generic for all Stage 2 students. If you or your child are unclear of the expectations, you can either contact the class teacher through the school by sending an email sanssouci-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or you can choose an alternative activity to complete with your child.

Due to the current circumstances with limited staff on site and current COVID restrictions around limited movement within our community printed copies will no longer be available.

This will be our format for the next week (Week 5 August 9-13) and we look forward to seeing you back in the classroom and in the playground this term as soon as it is safe for us all to return to school.

Kind Regards

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

Stage 3 staff were enthused and impressed with the participation and interest in this week’s Zoom sessions by our students.

Our continual transition to an online education delivery model this week allowed Stage 3 staff to discuss Zoom student user protocols with their class. Post Zoom feedback from our students this week showed the positive social value for them in having access to a more interactive forum with their own teacher and classmates.

As we continue to stay connected with our students, next week’s Zoom sessions for our Stage 3 students will have a much heavier educational emphasis. The agenda for next week’s Stage 3 Zoom sessions will include an overview of their weekly learning timetable, a summary of learning tasks as well as a student-teacher Q and A for students to go with the opportunity to then clarify any of the specific online learning tasks.

A reminder that Stage 3 Zoom sessions will take place during allocated class times throughout Monday. (See attached timetable) Each class teacher has already advised via Google Classroom of the allocated time. As per this week, sessions will be private and require a joining link which Stage 3 teachers have already posted in their Google Classroom.

On another note, thank you to the many student photo entries we had this week depicting the theme of ‘Lifelong Learning’. Was great to see the many positive and practical ways in which our Stage 3 students and their families have been managing throughout lockdown. Some samples we featured in this week’s Newsletter and a lengthier video sharing these will be posted on our school website next Monday.

Finally, Stage 3 teachers would again like to recognise the dedication and effort that our students have continued to make this week with their online learning. Even with Zoom sessions now being a weekly scheduled event, Stage 3 teachers will continue to offer daily support to our students and respond to their private messages via Google Classroom.

Regards,

Mr Knight & Stage 3 Staff

However, if the weather is inclement, parents and carers will be required to use the Covid Safe check-in and collect the packs from under the 3-6 COLA.

Parents and carers picking up these resources from the appropriately grade labelled tables must wear a mask and use the COVID Safe Check-in at the school gate, collect the resources and leave the area promptly. Please be patient and observe social distancing between any adults of 1.5m and check out using the Covid Safe Check-in as you leave the site.

Dear Stage 3 Parents and Carers,

We hope you are well and safe. Schooling from home has its demands and I know from the parents that Stage 3 teachers and I have spoken to you are doing a genuinely wonderful job in these challenging circumstances. The diversity of the tasks the students are completing is a perfect display of lifelong learning…the theme of this year’s Education Week. The upload of work we have received demonstrates that!

So, to celebrate this year’s Education Week remotely in Stage 3 we are going to ask families to send in one family photo of what learning at home looks like. If your child could upload one photo by 3pm next Wednesday, we are going to put them together in a PowerPoint to upload later next week. It doesn’t have to be serious. It doesn’t need to be part of ‘online learning’, it might be cooking in the kitchen, dancing in the lounge room, playing a game in the backyard or a photo of them watching the Olympics in their Aussie colours. It might be an amazing piece of work that has made your child proud. We look forward to sharing several photos in next week’s Newsletter too.

For the next four weeks, Stage 3 staff will continue with our current ‘at-home learning’ practices via Google Classroom to deliver learning tasks for your child. As in the past, they are identical to the work that is being supervised at school.

From next week also, your child’s teacher will be communicating with their class via a weekly Zoom. This will be a 20 minute check in to see how students are accessing Online Learning and to answer any questions students may have about Online Learning. Students will access their class Zoom Meeting via a posted link in their Google Classroom on Monday 2nd August.

5W - 9:20am

5K - 10:20am

6V - 12pm

5S - 12:40pm

5H - 1:20pm

6H - 1:30pm

6T - 1:50pm

6K - 2:20pm

Please have a relaxing weekend and continue cheering on those Aussies in Japan as they try to achieve their dreams.

We thank you for your ongoing support.

Mr Knight & Stage 3 Staff

Stage 1 Teachers

Dear Parents and Carers,

Beginning this week, your class teacher will provide feedback on writing, modelled reading (that is linked to our Science / Geography unit) and a maths work sample through a Rubric, a feature of Google Classroom.

If you or your child are unclear of the expectations, you can either contact the class teacher through the school office on 9529 6123 or by sending an email sanssouci-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or you can choose another activity to complete with your child.

If you require printed copies of these materials will be available for pick up at school on Monday 26 July only between 10-11am. Weather permitting, the collection point will be located at the tables in the park outside the pedestrian gate on The Boulevarde.

This will be our format for the next week (Week 3 July 26-30) and we look forward to seeing you back in the classroom and in the playground this term as soon as it is safe for us all to return to school.

Kind regards, Stage 2 teachers

Dear Parents and Carers,

Stage 3 teachers would like to recognise the dedication and effort that our students have continued to make this week with their online learning. We are hoping you and your family are managing as well as you can in these challenging circumstances.

Stage 3 teachers will continue with their online learning program next week. Learning activities provided will be consistent across all Year 5 classes and all Year 6 classes with a learning overview provided at the beginning of the week. A daily guide of suggested tasks to be completed by your child will be uploaded each morning at 9am. In some circumstances classroom teachers will modify individual student programs and this will be communicated through individual students’ Google Classroom.

Our expectations for students completing and uploading their finished work will continue to be flexible. As is currently the practice, teachers will continue providing feedback where necessary on submitted tasks. Please ensure you are monitoring your child to ensure they have submitted their daily tasks.

If your child is experiencing issues with completing their online learning from home, please contact the school via email and your child’s classroom teacher will be in touch as soon as possible. We remind our students to mark themselves as present every school day by 11am through the Google Classroom online roll. This will assist your child’s teacher to monitor their daily attendance and engagement.

For Term 3 Learning from Home, Stage 2 students will use the same format used in 2020; a five day a week timetable, separated into approximately 3 one hour sessions per day. Click here to access the Week 2 Timetable.

How students complete the learning tasks online is up to parents and carers. Parents may want work completed in a workbook, on a worksheet, or they may let students work online. It is up to parents and what suits their family best.

There will be a video on the weekly Google Classroom post to explain the Online Learning Timetable format.

We are also connecting our writing tasks and modelled reading with our Science / Geography theme: The Earth and its Environments. Stage 2 Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are hoping you and your family are managing as well as you can in these challenging circumstances. With the recent NSW Department of Health extension of the Greater Sydney lockdown students will be Learning from Home for the next two weeks (July 19-30).

Therefore, to support Learning from Home, Stage 3 teachers have developed a new learning program for the two weeks and will continue posting learning tasks in their respective Google Classrooms.

Each day an attendance post will again require your child to indicate that they have logged into their Google Classroom. This will assist your child’s teacher to monitor their daily attendance and engagement.

If your child is experiencing issues with completing their online learning from home, please contact the school via email (sanssouci-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au) and your child’s classroom teacher will be in touch as soon as possible.
